Although Ringo, George and John won’t be there, I WILL be singing Ooooo with Paul McCartney, and twenty-five thousand screaming fans, on my daughter’s birthday, July 13th. This morning after fumbling so slowly on my computer that I helplessly watched four sets of “best available” tickets go back into the American Express pre-sale pool I finally received confirmation that I (and three guests) will be seeing my favorite Beatle in person.
When my daughter Meggan turned 21 we were living in Southern California and she wanted me to take her to a show at the House of Blues in LA. That night Jerry Lee Lewis (Goodness, Gracious, Great Balls of Fire) was the headliner. We arrived early so Meggan could proudly display her ID and then get good seats for the show. No one asked for Meggan’s ID. We walked right in, without a bouncer to be seen. Meggan was disappointed. What’s the joy of turning 21 and being able to legally go into a place you have to be 21 to get into and then have no one ask for your idea!!! I mean really! What was the world coming to?
And then as we got ready to listen to some good old rock ‘n roll from one of the guys that defined it Meggan noticed that there were LOTS of girls her age sitting next to men my age, and it wasn’t Daddy Daughter Nite at House of Blues. I repeat, What WAS the world coming to?
Well, Meggan and I had a great time and laughed about it a lot since then. Today I had a great M2B:) moment when I offered her a little poem to tell her what I’d purchased for her 35th birthday.
ON YOUR TWENTY-FIRST WE HAD A BALL / BUT YOUR THIRTY-FIFTH WE’RE GONNA SEE PAUL!!!! Love, Dad

How Wondeful!!!! And how wonderful to share your joy and excitement with those you love. A few years ago we saw Tony Bennett in Park City and it was one the highlights of my musical experiences. Many years ago, my husband was a limo driver and drove the likes of Sting, David Bowie, Neil Diamond among others. We always got to “sneak” in with the car. But, it wasn’t worth anything without his joy in the moment there with me.
I am so excited for you!
Awesome!!! What a rockin’ cool dad you are!!
And so poetic. No. really. I mean it.
