April 16th: Midwest Connection

I spent tonight with about 1600 of the greatest ladies in the world.  Maybe I should rephrase that.  I was lucky enough to sing songs and tell stories at the Indian Convention Center for the wonderful women of the Midwest who came to the Time Out For Women conference this weekend.  I’m telling you, this was a great group.  Fun, funny, appreciative, thoughtful, open, honest…in other words: PERFECT!!!

In the first set I sang a bunch of songs from the M2B:) book/CD and I was reminded how much I love sharing my mission with others and inviting them to join me in the journey.  The second set took a deeply spiritual turn, one that I didn’t anticipate.  The set list of songs  for act 2 went the way of a loose scrap of paper on the track of the Indianapolis 500.  I let myself be fully present in those moments and found that the songs we all needed to hear weren’t the ones I thought I’d probably sing.   I loved the fact that the songs flowed from one to the other without pausing for applause.  It was like there was a connection happening that didn’t want to be interrupted.

And it wasn’t just the songs that were being connected.

I love it when what happens seems directed and spiritually organic. I love that feeling, like I found the right groove and dropped in.

We thank you so much for coming out to the Midwest and sharing your beautiful talent. You really touched a lot of us, especially in that second set. I felt like that second set was aimed right at me and it brought back so many memories from 3 years ago when I used your music to make it through some really tough times in my life. I don’t know if I would have been able to keep my sanity if it wasn’t for the wonderful messages full of hope in your music. Thank you again, not only for coming to Indiana, but for always writing and performing such uplifting and inspiring music. WE LOVE YOU!!

I had a moment the other day I wanted to share. I was sewing a quilt at home alone when it began to rain. Not just rain but POUR! pretty common where I live. But it was a moment to stop and listen to the storm outside that just made me feel calm and peaceful inside that I enjoyed most that day. the rain only lasted a few minutes and then it was gone. I”m glad I took that chance to stop and enjoy the moment while it was there.

I don’ t usually “do” much in the way of “church-y” music, but you have always been the exception, you simply speak to the heart and soul. I know you’ve always said you’re not a singer, but I’ve always enjoyed when you do your songs the best. It was a privilege to be able to go to TOFW with my sis, with huge, big, bonus points to finally be able to see you live. You are amazing. I could have left after Friday’s program and it would have been worth everything… of course I would have missed Saturday and that would have been a bummer ;-) . Thank you for being you and thanks for a new mission!

I was there! I could tell you were really having a great time…I’ve seen you perform several times, but this time you had such a happy energy!
Ever since I was about thirteen I have loved your music, and as I grew up and discovered my own musical talents, dreamed of recording uplifting music to build the kingdom. You still inspire me.
This time, I particularly enjoyed your song “you need pills”. (I wished I could play it for someone I know while they sleep…like a subliminal message!) But my favorite was “Hope Hiding”. So perfect.

I was privileged to be among those 1600 women! I was SO touched by your presentation, especially the 2nd set. I so agree that more than just songs were connected. Thank you.
