March 6th: Curry and rice, Jokes and Digital Rewind

Why is it that curry and rice tastes better to me the day after?  Maybe it’s the Thai equivalent of a great American truth: chili, stew, barbeque and baked beans ALL taste better a day or two after they’re first served.  Something about the spices really getting comfortable with each other, I suppose.  Today’s happy moment was heating up some of last night’s curry.

Besides tasting delicious, it allowed me to “linger longer” on the events I wrote about yesterday.  Lynne and Meggan  were gone most of the day and Alex and I were keeping tabs on Bucky.  Yes, I enjoyed putting the Thomas the Train puzzle together. ( the first three times ).  Yes, it was exciting playing run from the Dinosaurs (until they started chasing us upstairs)   Yes, it was preschool educational watching Max and Ruby…again…and again….and again.  And obviously dancing with Bucky and Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT video was terrific until I threw my back out.  That’s when I took a break and heated up the curry and rice and ate it very slowly.  I let some more memories flood my mind and I enjoyed the feelings.

Then I turned on the radio and it was just in time for Prairie Home Companion (how can a story teller not love this program?) and it was the annual JOKE show!!!   Joke after joke after joke.  Some silly, some stupid, some hysterical but all of them made me grateful for God giving us a sense of humor.  Unfortunately I didn’t get to hear the entire show because Bucky signaled an emergency: Max and Ruby exited the tv screen sooner than Bucky wanted them too.  Then came an unexpected joy and a new appreciation for a happiness maker:  The rewind technology known as DVR!!

After my husband came into the kitchen to say the radio would make me happier than the travel log I was watching, I am just listening to Praire Home Companion (its 10:49 MST) and I totally agreee about being grateful for humor! I wish I had a mental DVR to replay some of the jokes when I need a quick does of humor!!!! PS Love your blog!!!!

Have you seen the movie or read the book, “The Peaceful Warrior”? You eating your curry and rice slowly reminded me of the scene where Socrates slowly eates and enjoys his food. Dang it! Now I’m hungry………Happiness maker number two! The fridge!!
